Merthyr Tydfil Primary Care Cluster have partnered with Stephens and George, a non-profit charitable trust for the community.

As Merthyr residents, you’ll now have access to a children’s and family counsellor, who will be based in Dowlais Community Centre.

What happens in the sessions?

The sessions are 1-1 and if required, a counsellor is there to support people with a wide range of issues, such as emotional distress, anxiety and negative thoughts as well as supporting with bereavement and family breakdowns. Your counsellor will also support with improving coping strategies and general wellbeing.

When are the sessions available?

The sessions will run during weekdays, available between the hours of 9am until 5pm. The amount of counselling sessions you may be offered will depend on your individual needs.

Your counsellor will also let you know about any other activities or services that are available to you in the local community when you attend. You may also be referred into a number of free local activities such as:

  • Cooking
  • After school club
  • School support
  • Mindfulness
  • Men’s support group
  • Volunteering
  • Training
  • Gym
  • Fitness classes
  • Alternative curriculum education
  • Gardening project
  • A community Café and catering project
