Overview
One of the most effective methods of contraception, a vasectomy, can be done in as little as 15 minutes.
A vasectomy, otherwise known as male sterilisation, is a procedure done to seal the tubes which carry the sperm. This permanently prevents pregnancy.
The procedure will usually be carried out under local anaesthetic and be done in under 15 minutes.
You can speak with your GP about the procedure and they will be able to talk you through what options you have and whether it is the right solution for you.
Helpful Advice
- A vasectomy is more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy.
- It is a permanent procedure which is very difficult to reverse.
- It doesn’t affect your sex drive or ability to enjoy sex, your semen just won’t contain sperm.
- A vasectomy doesn’t protect against STIs, so you may still need to use condoms as well.
